Araucanìa is a region of Chile, home to the Mapuche, an indigenous Mesoamerican population that has inhabited the area since the Pre-Colombian period. My task was to create a visual system for a Mapuche subculture, that highlighted the population’s bond with nature.

While researching the Mapuche culture I came across a set of symbols, a proto-alphabet that represents a wide range of topics and objects belonging to the foundation of Mapuche pluri-millennial heritage. From these symbols I built a generative logo and a visual language around it. I chose to use a very modern style coupled with clean typography to contrast the media portrayal of indigenous populations.
